What are Phrasal Verbs?

A verb + particle (preposition/adverb) that creates a new meaning.

Most Common Phrasal Verbs

  • give up = stop trying → "Don't give up!"
  • look for = search → "I'm looking for my keys."
  • turn on/off = activate/deactivate → "Turn off the lights."
  • pick up = collect → "I'll pick you up at 7."
  • find out = discover → "I found out the truth."
  • come back = return → "When will you come back?"
  • get up = rise from bed → "I get up at 7am."
  • put on = wear → "Put on your coat."
  • take off = remove → "Take off your shoes."
  • run out of = have no more → "We ran out of milk."
