By vs Until

By = au plus tard à (date limite, deadline). L'action doit être terminée avant ce moment.

Until (ou till) = jusqu'à. L'action continue pendant toute la durée, jusqu'à ce moment.

Astuce : By = deadline (l'action est ponctuelle). Until = durée (l'action continue).

• The report must be ready by Friday. — Le rapport doit être prêt d'ici vendredi. (deadline → by)
• I'll wait until 6 o'clock. — J'attendrai jusqu'à 18h. (durée continue → until)
• We need to finish by 5 pm. — Nous devons finir avant 17h. (deadline → by)
• The shop is open until 9 pm. — Le magasin est ouvert jusqu'à 21h. (durée → until)
